1972: Whitey and the Hometown Boys
• Gene White, Jimmy Beauston, Pete Rock
1973 – 1975: The Homeboy Discount
Band
• Pete Rock on mandolin, Bill Kendal on banjo, and Doug Rock
on guitar
• During that time Riley Heart would sit in on bass and Johnny
Hollow joined the group on the fiddle.
• The trio (Pete on guitar, Doug on bass and Bill on banjo)
performed mainly at the “Blue Grass Salon” Downtown
Charleston on King Street.
1975: The Homeboy Discount Band
• Pete Rock on guitar, Bill Kendal on banjo, and Gene White
on wash tub bass
• Doug left town and Gene White joined us on wash tub bass.
From jam sessions at Toler’s Cove the group drew more players,
Mac Mcfadden on banjo and George Pearce on mandolin.
1976: The Homeboy Discount Band
• Pete Rock on bass, Bill Kendall on fiddle, Kenny Barnes
on guitar, George Pearce on mandolin and Jim Carr on Banjo
• This group performed at the Isle of Palms Sundeck and had
a good run playing BBQ’s on Kiawah Island. In the late seventies
the group would reconfigure itself again with Mcfadden on Banjo.
• With the opening of The Creekside Lounge on the Isle of
Palms in 1976 many players came and went.

1998: The Homeboy Discount Band
• Bill Kendall on fiddle, Kenny Barnes on guitar, Ray Murphy
on Banjo and Scott Simotacchi on mandolin (Scott would later
be replaced with Steven Schabele on mandolin)
